Saadsalem 74 Posted September 20, 2010 A good image signed with your style Meir. I would be so thankful if you could tell me something about the man and what he sells or do. Link to comment
myattphotoandfotoart39 1 Posted September 20, 2010 He is oriental Jew. I do not recall what he was selling. Sorry. Link to comment
myattphotoandfotoart39 1 Posted September 21, 2010 "oriental" meaning middle east orgin. i.e. Arab countries and some from Africa. They are Mizraki, meaning "east". I am not an expert on this subject. Link to comment
Donna Stavis 0 Posted September 23, 2010 I wonder how old is this photo, Meir? Sociologically there is a story being told here. The old mizrachi Jew reduced to selling on the street -- probably had to flee his country of origin without his belongings -- probably this affected his entire financial life in Israel - and the young women perhaps looking at the records (who ownsrecords anymore?) like a curiosity while for him it is existence. Love the turned back of the person on the phone -- adds dimension, but not interference in the composition. Very nice tones. Love also the expression of the seller, as he looks somewhere off in the distance, so totally uninterested in them and what he must do. Link to comment
aarkp 2 Posted September 23, 2010 as always a wonderful street photograph with excellent tones... the only face we can really see is the one of interest to us as he sits brooding... the two females, counterpoint to him, are dressed totally opposite to his garb - two different worlds... there is a striking bright board above what i take to be a telephone - i'd crop it out... that's all the change i've made in the upload Link to comment
myattphotoandfotoart39 1 Posted September 23, 2010 Thank you for commenting and suggestions. An other choice would be to clone instead of crop and that keeps more space on top. See example. [i did a very quick job of this just for example] Again thank you for pointing out the distraction. Link to comment
stanley_rogouski 0 Posted September 25, 2010 This strikes me as very similar in theme to the Photo of the Week a few weeks ago, the one which showed three Muslim women in traditional religious garb looking at a tourist in a bikini. But I think the fact that the subject is male adds to the photo's strength. The man from the traditional, patriarchal Jewish culture is lost, even in a nominally Jewish state. The fact that the three girls are essentially faceless adds a subtle touch. It focuses the attention on the man on the right. Link to comment
