pnital 36 Posted September 19, 2010 It is two added versions of the previous series, that conclude my commentary of the dance. I add the explanation again.Life as a dance. The image is part of a dance I have photographed again, some explanation . The story is about a day in the life of a schizophrenic woman, and her relations with a man, which is the "Dancer's Portrait " The name of the dance is: " Coffee, Night light and a cigarette".... Anat Gregorio dances the woman's role, excelently performed and Jula here is her partner. This time is a series of tri, my interpretation of part of a very good chorography. Other parts of the dance can be seen in this file. Thanks for viewing Link to comment
tonyfrench 0 Posted September 19, 2010 Pnina, I like the light in this against the stark black backdrop. THe relationship of the two performers to each other is very interesting, particularly with one's back toward us. The large and dark tattoos on her arm are a nice contrast to the softly draped light dress that she is wearing. Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 264 Posted September 19, 2010 Well composed shot! Not easy under the lighting circumstances! Cheers Pnina!PDE Link to comment
LindaM 2 Posted September 20, 2010 What strikes me in this image is the solidity and stillness of the man vs. the transience of the woman Link to comment
Donna Stavis 0 Posted September 20, 2010 Interesting portrait of a dance looking like she wants to get his attention, hiking her dress up, face turned to him, moving behind him. Those tattoos lend her a tough look or perhaps once-tough appearance. The lighting on his bare back keeps my attention (not just hers), as I wonder more about his story -- -- why is he faced away? There are hints but not many. The cigarette butts suggest this has been happening for quite a while. The black backdrop suggests night and nighttime activity and mood. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 22, 2010 Tony, thanks for your feedback and expressing your feelings.I appreciate it very much. Pierre, and Linda, this is a bout 15 minutes dance, in a dark atmosphere, I photographed the scenes that touched my "prism" Donna, as usual you have well expressed the feelings and questions the scene triggers., The dance starts with closer relations, ( can be seen in this file) It is the second time I photographed this dance, the previous one was nearly 4 years ago when it was created.and I accompanied the process ( Approaching.....part 2). The story is complicated, the atmosphere was darker even more this time) Choreographed creations are evolving and changing a bit, while working on them again.http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=5088586חג סוכות שמח Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted September 22, 2010 Pnina, I see this in a similar fashion to Linda. I am most immediately struck by the stillness of the man and the motion blur of the women. Within the context of the plot which you describe many of the small nuances of the scene can become charged with a psychological significance. Your B&W conversion here is very well done. The details in the black of the chair and the way the details of the chair resolve into the blackness is visually appealing. The stage floor being absent makes the entire scene feel void of place as if it were a mental construct rather than a slice of reality. Link to comment
kallol 1 Posted September 24, 2010 Nice shot, Pnina...static man and the motion of the woman is very well captured and composed...my best Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 25, 2010 Gordon, Thanks for your well written and explained your impression of this scene, always a pleasure to read . I like especially your point about the lack of a seen floor. A good point that I did not think of before but you are right , adds to the general mental situation and feeling.Kallol, and Alberto, thanks as well for your feedback. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted September 28, 2010 Schizophrenia seems a baffling illness, even for someone like me who has worked with such clients for years. The boundaries become permeable and change shape without notice. Solid things suddenly dissolve. One minute, you are you and they are them, and the next the distinction between you and them is gone. Schizophrenics often walk and pace incessantly, perhaps to clear their thoughts and focus and perhaps to keep the world from sticking. I think you've captured relational torment well. Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted September 28, 2010 Pnina, after reading your introductory note and viewing the shot taken 4 years back, I feel her condition has deteriorated and your photography has improved to a higher level of communication. I am amazed at your story-telly ability in images. Very good composition and tonal contrast. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 30, 2010 What I have tried to combine in this series, is some elements of the dance that were connected to my medical education (which is not very wide as yours, Jeff) on the subject( series) of "Life as dance". It is interesting to me when the dance is not just an abstract movement but mentally touches, and can be translated to our human life. Jeff ,thanks for your interesting explanation of that illness.Amal, thanks for your very nice feedback, I think that all of us are trying to develop our skills, knowledge and expression.
