with a distinctly subcontinental flavor. A family run establishment, it is

crammed to the hilt with household consumables preferred by the

diaspora, whether sourced from the subcontinent or elsewhere, even from

local manufacturers in the U.S. No computers, just old fashioned cash

registers. Prices, as can be expected, are usually lower. There are many

such stores across the country, wherever the diaspora has made its

presence felt. This one charmed me for its riot of color...

Well an interesting photo, yes very colorful. Although they seem lo-tech I notice a flat sreen monitor to the right, for security purposes I suppose. What is diaspora?? Actually a good docu. shot Rajat.......Holger

When I see such documentary photo I feel fine because I think that the diaspora is a way to diffuse cultures, people, habits and to force the melting of humans. I like to go shopping food in 'ethnic stores', and I  do it here in Milan even if we have not such great stores like this and probably the choice is narrower.

Nice shot Rajat

PS: what does the title translate? What is "deshi dukan" Amal-da speaks about?

"Des" is literally 'country'. A "desi" is is a colloquial term for anyone belonging to the diaspora, thus an Indian living outside India. "Dukan" is literally 'shop'.
