Dusk over Two Medicine

harrylichtman

I had hoped to find a more interesting FG composition for this classic view toward Sinopah, but it was getting dark so I decided to take a shot or two in case I didn't have a chance to return to the lake. The exposure was 8 seconds at f16, ISO 100. With the longer exposures and wind on the water, I am never sure exactly what the image will look like. I am usually pleasantly surprised. Single exposure. While holding the camera steady by pulling down on the tripod center column, I have found that I am able to move the hard ND filter at the transition zone to eliminate the filter's hard edge. Seems to save a lot of post-processing under certain conditions. The view has an uncanny resemblance to Grinnell Point on Swiftcurrent Lake.

I enjoyed your landscape photo, Very nice late day lighting and color, and the foreground works good. The only thing I might do if it were my photo would be to clone out the  distracting light spot on the left and maybe the right also sides of the large mountain that is on the smaller mts on each side. Just a thought . great landscape photo. take care.

Thanks Paul - I can see how tightening the crop on the right might be a good idea -the rocks on the lower right worked well for that corner, but the uper right doesn't hold the same appeal.  That light spot on the distant left mnt. was an area that was receiving light through the clouds.  I checked the RAW file again, as I thought maybe I had hit the eraser button in PS or something.  I agree, it is distracting.   A different angle might have eliminated both of these problems.

Thanks, Harry
