I've followed your work for a couple years now, initially drawn to your Yosemite in winter shots.  In recent months the direction you've taken with processing is a departure from what I recall.  Perhaps it has more to do with your subject matter than the actual processing but this photograph is a good example.

I find it unrealistic.  The shadow saturation seems heavy-handed to me, giving the image an unnatural and overtly processed appearance...sort of HDR but not really.  The composition is strong with the saguaros standing proud, the red rocks in the foreground and that beautiful Arizona sky, but still, I'm brought back to the processing.  Again, this is just me, I'm sure there will be those who sing the praises of super-saturated, HDR-ish scenes, it's just not for me.  I might try cropping a little off the right side, as well.  Just enough to eliminate the bushy (Joshua Tree, maybe?) peaking out where the boulder meets the right side of your frame.

Never stop trying, though.  I've really enjoyed viewing your images over the years and look forward to more.

Thanks, Jeff.

All photos in the fold are expriemental.  I am very happy that you have recognized my intention to present the picture.  I agree that it is very unnatural.   The sky is markedly darkened.  The main objects which are enrirely in the shadow are given more light.  Furthermore, some additional light is put on the red rocks.
