alfbailey 1 Posted September 13, 2010 The lake was what we originally came to photograph, but the winds started when the rain stopped, so this was a bit of an alternative shot. I am away for a few days, hope to catch up with everyone when I get back. Your thoughts and comments are always appreciated Thank You. Link to comment

JimCowan 0 Posted September 17, 2010 "The lake was what we originally came to photograph"So often, I head out planning to photograph this or that scene, I may have considered the time of day, weather etc. but I rarely return with the photo that I had in mind when I left home. I have learned to be open to what ever nature presents. This is such a perfect example, as you have produced a very striking image with lots of viewer interest. Looking at this, I just wish I could step out into the landscape, it is just that inviting.Jim Link to comment
hamidfarzandian 0 Posted September 19, 2010 I always amazed of crystal sharp quality of your captures all over the scene, from near parts to far, as seen here. Very eye catching scene. Bravo. 7Hamid. Link to comment

ldavidson 4 Posted September 22, 2010 Magnificent! You have refreshed my love of landscapes with this one. They don't get much better than this. You have a very keen sense of aesthetics. Is that lavender? It is so lovely. Best wishes, Linda Link to comment
alfbailey 1 Posted September 22, 2010 I have just returned from Norway, what a fantastic country, I didn't get much in the way of photo's, but the experience was awesome.PATSY Many thanks for your visit and kind commnts, much appreciated.RegardsAlf GoogloeBOBBYgood to hear from you, I hope you are keeping well. Thank you for stoppng by and for your kind comments.RegardsAlfJOHN The Cader Idris Mountains and surrounding area is full of pleasant suprises, it's another Gem of discovery for me, , but I'm sure you will be familiar with the area. If not I recommend a visit. Thanks for looking in John, much appreciated!Kind RegardsAlfJIM You are quite correct with your analogy Jim, I guess if I stuck to my objective no matter what, the chances are that I'd arrive home with no photographs at all. Theres a lot to be said for keeping your options open. Thank you for your interest and kind words Jim, much appreciated!Kind RegardsAlfHAMIDMany thanks for your kind words and interest. The sharpness and clarity come from practising and experimenting with the optimum dof and exposure, but I also think the Nikkor 16 -35mm is a quality lens and of course a little bit of help from photo shop.Kind RegardsAlfARNAVSincere thanks for your kind words and interest. Very much appreciated.CheersAlfPATSY You must have liked this one so much, you critiqued it twice! But hey I'm not complaining : - )Kind RegardsAlfLINDASincere thanks for your thoughts and kind words. I'm very flattered that one of my photo's could have that effect ! The vegetation you can see is Heather, hence the title, it grows in great abundance in North Wales and Scotland on lowland hills and slopes. The yellow flower to the right is Gorse. I'm really pleased you liked it Linda.Kind RegardsAlf Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 22, 2010 First, excellent use of wideangle,no other lens would have captured the lovely vista.second, the composition is very good, the nicely detailed foregroud, the path on the left side and lake on the right converging nicely with a nice backdrop of hills and the sky,i also find that after the rain the light is always very good, another nice piece of work Alf....PS ,I always believe that hard work pays,if you didn't make the efford to go to the lake you wouldn't have the opportunity of this shot Link to comment
alfbailey 1 Posted September 25, 2010 Hi HarryMany thanks for your visit and positive feedback, very much appreciated! I use the Nikkor 16 - 35mm full frame lens, in this case almost wide open at 17mm. I find it really sharp and would be lost without it now for my landscapes, but the Sigma 10 - 20mm was another fine wide angle lens I used with my previous camera the D 90.I agree in principle about hard work yielding results, and "getting out there" will inevitably provide opportunity, so I undestand completely where you are coming from. But I have to confess, it never seems like hard work. This weekend I'm suffering from that catastrophic ailment that brings a man to his knees and strikes fear into the hearts of all women folk......Yes you guessed "Man Flu" I mention this because even though I'm rendered helpless and incapacitated : - ) the desire to get out and take photo's is hardly diminished. Thanks again Harry!RegardsAlf Link to comment
bobpaul 0 Posted September 28, 2010 i LOVE the colors of this picture. it was well captured. i am really impressed here. my only thing to say is to maybe change the font to the "Alf Bailey Photography" , and the only reason i say that is because i see that font everywhere on the internet! great job! aarkp 2 Posted September 28, 2010 i like everything about this photograph... but i do feel that the predominance of the heather, while it is gorgeous, imbalances the composition - at least in my eyes... a panorama... Link to comment
thadley 14 Posted September 28, 2010 I picked up an old 2003 Outdoor Photography magazine and there was an interview of a professional photographer on photographing the grand canyon. "How do you approach photographing such an iconic place like the Grand canyon". His answer was "I let the Grand canyon approach me". The point is, one must be an opportunist when you visit a particular location with pre-conceived ideas. And this has happened to me. Alf this is a beautiful shot and as much as i look for something on which I can offer a constructive comment, I have not found anything. For a moment I was thinking that something could be done with the sky and then concluded that is very fine.I am particularly fond of the yellow shrub in the Heather (perhaps i should rewrite that). Since I am attracted to that element, I might have made a 2nd shot by getting up close and intimate with it and then look to see if I could make a composition out of it.And here I was thinking that I would just say "perfect capture of a beautiful scene". All the best, take care of that "Man Flu" and hope you are not airbound - (*)*). Link to comment
alfbailey 1 Posted September 28, 2010 BOBSincere thanks for your kind words and thoughts, I'm really pleased you liked it.Hmmmm and there was me thinking I'd be different with that font......back to my old "Tahoma" I guess : - )Cheers Bob!AlfRAJATI can see where you are coming from and I quite like that crop, maybe a tad more room left at the bottom as it loses a bit too much, but yeah, good call,. May thanks for your contribution and kind words Rajat.Kind RegardsAlfTONY You are always good enough to share some words of wisdom with me, and the open minded aspect of photography that you have communicated is perhaps something that I have only recently begun to appreciate. My sincere thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback Tony, it is very much appreciated.Kind RegardsAlf Link to comment

lizweisiger 0 Posted October 27, 2010 Fabulous details and dramatic scenery make this an image to fall into for me. I love the composition, with the heather predominantly positioned, leading the eye toward the distant mountains. Wonderful work, Alf. Link to comment
