Unsharp, and the face is too shaded, hiding what might be an interesting person. The eyes need to be visible and in focus, or the impact and character are lost. If the gentleman is still available, try again, using softer light.

confusing image for me. I think If would you use real b/w paper, and b/w developing, it would be much sharper. I think that this gentleman is your Grandfather? Next time try to capture him much sharper and show his hard years of living.

I think the softness is exaggerated. Instead of unfocusing, try soft focusing (diffusing the highlights) or slightly blurring the skin. The facial light and toning are great. I have reservations about the bright background.

The lighting on the face is good and so is the expression. The bright background is too much and also the picture should be a tad sharper. Try to focus on the eyes and use f-stop 2.5 to get a sharper image near the edges (since the subject is off-center). You could also use the same setup but place the subject in the middle and use f-stop 1.8 to obtain sharp eyes but the rest of the image slightly blurred.
