montana - glacier national park Liquid Lava - Glacier National Park

Mount Henkel, Altyn Peak, and Apikuni Mountain catch the early sun in

Glacier National Park, turning the lake to what appeared as liquid lava. I

tried several shutter speeds to cature the motion of the surf on the lake.

I preferred this .5 sec exposure. Single exposure, 3 stop hard grad.

ISO 320, f16.

There was more sky in the original as it was very colorful, but I decided

it brought the eye away from the peaks and water - cropped off.

I really like this shot. My eye naturally is drawn up along the waterline to the peaks in the distance. The balance feels right; the amount of sky you have left in the picture feels good. The foreground detail is nice and sharp. I really like the exposure time, as well - the viewer gets the sensation of the gentle lapping of the waves on shore; the action of the water has been nicely preserved.
