The Gift

harrylichtman

For about 5 minutes during this morning in Glacier National Park, I felt like I had received the greatest gift of incredible light. It was the most intense and colorful light I witnessed during my time in Glacier. Under these conditions, the glow reflecting off the sky creates the most gorgeous glow on the ground, water - just everywhere. I'm often torn under these conditions to just enjoy the brief moment or try and photograph it. The waves on the lake became a bit misty with the longer exposure, but helped translate the reflected light better. A single exposure with 2 stop ND filter hard edge. WHile the sky may appear oversat. to some, the colors were this intense - I did drop the sky sat. during RAW conversion to preserve highlights in the sky.Your impressions, commnets welcome.

Truly beautiful and I have witnessed such sites. I like how you have preserved the tint to blue than unnecessarily turning to magenta/purple. Very believable but beautifully captured. I also like the low angle. Best, +Lalit

Thanks Lalit - Not much needed - nature did the hard work.  There was great separation in the sky from the grey clouds and orange clouds.

Aftermath     This was the scene about 30 minutes after the sky had exploded into color.  While most of the sky and peaks had turned grey, sun broke through a sliver in the clouds to add something special to the view.

Amazing. The "aftermath" image is equally breathtaking. Without trying to belittle your creativity , I must say ...for a brief moment God was with you that day. Excellent work.

Agreed!  Without a doubt!  So many times the day starts off gray and stays grey.  On this morning, heavy clouds were everywhere, but there was a thin break on the eastern horizon, so I knew the potential for some great lighting would becoming may when the sun entered that gap of clea skies.
