I like the photo - it is appealing. However, as noted above, I think 1/2 mile might be a bit of a stretch. I have that same lens and a similar body and I know I could not come close to resolving that bird at even a quarter of that distance. 1/2 mile is close to the length of 9 football fields. Distance aside - nice capture.

Maybe I should have said "ten miles," so as not to be misunderstood. Thirty feet (maybe the distance) was too far for this lens.
