Len, if I'm not mistaken, I know this plane from childhood history class about the "Fling Tigers"; American volunteers fling P40B for the Chinese again the Japanese, except those planes had the classic shark face.

I've always had trouble deciding how to shoot parked aircraft, partial or its entirety. This composition is nice in a photographic sense of proportion and scale but I'd still like to see more of the plane as a matter of personal preference.

This bird looks fresh off the assembly line. Was it at an air show?

Nice of you to drop in.  This is the same P40 you spoke of with just a different paint scheme. (no need now to scare the enemy with shark faces I guess)  I chose this angle as, with any show, air or auto, the backgrounds of meandering people and other non-essentials are impossible to control.  I always try to eliminate these elements with a low camera angle albeit at the expense of a more detailed and fuller shot of the subject.  This was indeed taken at an air show, at the Edenvale airport (halfway between Barrie and Collingwood On.)  I did take a couple more detail shots that I was going to save for later posts but since you are interested I will post them now.  Best, LM.

Know what you mean, Len. Excluding distracting elements is important in getting clean shots. Gee, my spelling sucks - keep missing the "Y" in flying. :-)

I remember my favorite childhood vintage WW2 fighter was the Stuka (I guess technically a dive bomber) probably because of the cool wing design. Built a bunch of Revell models of it too, then graduated to building a large balsa wood model for static display - it was too pretty to risk crashing.

I did build a P-51 Mustang in balsa, U-control with a .049 engine. Didn't last long...

Your pictures brought back fond memories. :-)

The whole series is so well balanced exposure wise and of amazing details and colors, wishing you all of the best.

I think the series demonstrates the strong areas of a Point & Shoot camera.  (and a little photoshop enhancement).  One has to crouch down really low for some of these shots. (not easy for protesting old knees).  Thanks for your visits.  Best, LM.

Thanks for your thoughts.  I may have been a little heavy handed with the enhancement of the saturation in Photoshop but I wanted a bolder look than the original straight from the camera.  I thought the red, blue, and yellow went well toward that goal.  Best, LM.
