amalsircar 2 Posted August 28, 2010 I think I should explain why I captioned this image as 'Protection'.Snails have a thick shell, but it is not good enough to protect themseves from attacks of ants and carabid bettles, because it is imposiible to close the shell mouth. To protect itself against such small enemies, the snails produce large amounts of watery slime bubbled-up with air.Ants are caught in the slime and are prevented from reaching the snail. aarkp 2 Posted August 28, 2010 you have captured an unusual (and at least to me, unknown,) facet of this creature! i like the pov and composition -- the veins of the frond flaring out from under the snail form a pleasing backdrop and provide an appropriate environment Link to comment

GailAnthonyHarmer 5 Posted August 29, 2010 Amal, I have yet learned another lesson in 'nature'......thanks to you. "Nature' in all of it's wisdom and the ability to adapt to change, has provided the snail with te ability to'protect' itself from so many dangers. Great shot and timing of capture. Thankyou for sharing Amal, most sincerely, Gail Link to comment
