dennismk 0 Posted November 29, 2002 I must be getting old. I keep returning to this image that has much personal meaning to me to try and express it in a new way. I don't feel that I have really "nail it down" yet.... Will let it rest and wander in my mind for a while... Link to comment
dgl 0 Posted November 29, 2002 the sepia looks too reddish. i'd be curious in seeing it in straight up b&w. Link to comment
dennismk 0 Posted November 29, 2002 Is in my 60's Folder and can be seen there. Oh yes about the redish tint, it was tough to get it to look right on PN as it looked on my monitor in PS, I must have posted it 3 times last night and it still is not right on. Update: Another version can be seen in my Conceptual Work folder with a poem that came to me as I was working with a montage of her image and images of myself then and now. Link to comment
jimvanson 0 Posted November 30, 2002 Dennis...hauntingly beautiful shot, great print, great presentation. And yes, the sepia is perfect to my eyes and on my monitor! Link to comment
bradkim 8 Posted December 14, 2002 The original of this picture must've been made when you were 19. ( I read your biography, Dennis.) The caption you gave to this image touches me. I am at your age...... I think I do understand the emotional attachment you have on this image...... This is an awfully beautiful picture and it looks fine on my computer screen. Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 64 Posted January 18, 2003 Very poignant photo and title, Dennis. We all have one of "these" in our past, don't we? As for the colors, not knowing her hair color, etc., it is hard to say, but a little lighter might work. Then again, it looks great as it is. Link to comment
vicki_huynh 0 Posted February 11, 2003 I really like this photograph and think the caption is appropriate as well. The light is great and I especially like how it shines in her eye. I've seem much worse photos with higher overall ratings ... just doesn't seem fair. Best Wishes. Link to comment
tat 0 Posted February 11, 2003 I really love this photo, especially the hauting eyes and expression! This photo has a very special quality from others because it's not just about an concept or the superficial beauty, but a haunting moment in which the subject will stay in the viewers' hearts for a long time. Nice work, thanks for posting. Link to comment

brendan_turner1 0 Posted February 7, 2004 ...intimate, that I can barely look at it. I really feel this image quite deeply, I feel the love that existed in that space floating between you and her and It's like being right there. Wow, I don't really know how to express it. As a little suggestion, I really want to see the backround in a different colour, perhaps a light dove grey or whatever colour it was at the time. But that's just me...trying to really be there I guess. As for "nailing this down" I don't think you ever will. It's not really possible to tack out such an ephemeral image--it can only be revisited in poetry. thank you for letting me visit it. Really. Link to comment
Phil_Light 793 Posted October 30, 2004 Dennis- You are the master of color landscapes. Yet, I find myself drawn to this image too. I like your dark, brooding, atmospheric emphasis in your images. There's no too dark or too sepia if you subjecively feel it to be correct. There's only differing subjective impressions to each viewer. You definitely break the more formal rules of pictorial photography (proper density, tonalities from Black to bright White, and color value variations). But, so what! The Black and White image of this same subject is completely different! You gotta go with what you know to be true to you. IMO everything you've done so far works with this image. It is one of my favorite non-landscapes from your portfolio. Link to comment
dennismk 0 Posted October 31, 2004 Thank you Philip and others for your very kind words about this photograph. As a foot note I found Judy online and had a meeting with her in Seatle just a few weeks ago when we went down to WA state for my sons wedding, it had been close to 37 years since we saw each other. We had a very nice meeting just by ourselfs in a resterant talking over old times. I could still see the girl in her, the now 58 year old women. It was a good time and now I have another friend.
