It took me some time before I realised that this often climbed stairway was accompanied by that direction of sunlight at some point during the day. I tried to access your photo Leonardo, but was apparently too late as it had been deleted. Sorry. I should check my comments file more frequently. Good photography, all!

Arthur -- Came across this through the POP Forum thread on shadows.  Along with a very rich and deep tonality (or so it appears to my eye and monitor), I really like the way your shadow breaks up the white edges of the stairs.  Very striking and very effective I think.

Steve, thank you for commenting. I seem not to be notified by Photo.Net when comments are added and regret not responding sooner. The building itself is in grey concrete, with concrete blocks and some cut stone, so I only had to expose correctly on the 100 ISO B&W film to retain some detail in the highlighgts, while letting most of the blacks go untextured in the bright sunlight coming in from the large window at the top of the stairs. I like the effect of composition and that of the limited latitude of the film. The negative makes nice bold prints under the enlarger, but I admit there is not much subtlety in the grey scale. As a simple graphic image, the lack of variation in the greys is perhaps not too important.
