Yafo or Jaffa Gate was inaugurated in 1538 as part of the rebuilding of

the Old City walls by Suleiman the Magnificent. Just inside the gate,

behind an iron grating on the left, lie two tombs. These are believed to

be the graves of the two architects whom Suleiman commissioned to

construct the Old City walls. When Suleiman saw that the architects

had left Mount Zion and the tomb of King David out of the enclosure, he

ordered them killed. However, in deference to their impressive

achievement, he had them buried inside the walls next to Jaffa Gate.

Hi Meir - Pity about the two figures in the background and also you need to clone out the strip of window on the left - I might try and darken out or clone out the two background figures as well.

Wonderful of the Ethiopian mother-son.  Thirsty just looking at the couple drinking (it's hot here!).  Interesting choice to crop just below the curb; it adds movement. Nice tones.  Feels like home.

i would not clone the window out. its not distracting and cloning it would not be real. if it does give you a hangup i would rather crop than clone but to me at least it really isnt that big of an issue. well done photo - i second what Donna said about the feeling of movement. And home - even though i was only there for about two weeks. I need to figure out a way to get back.

I would not crop because elbow would then be too close to the frame and then I'd have to crop in on the right side also, to  balance. The window is in fact just a slit as seen -made for some such thing as archers for defense I suppose. As for how "to get back", El Al will do it.

Hi again Meir - This is what I meant - clone out window, burn in background faces so eye drawn into the triangle of the four principals - makes them stand out more, I think. I agree about the movement  - a very good shot.

Thanks. Clone is fine  Burned faces, no; not on my monitor. Are not natural; look more like cardboard poster than skin. That is sometimes a problem with B&W digital..getting natural skin tones.

quite fine as it is... the window slit would perhaps show up less obtrusively if the bordering frame were not black

A great shot spoiled by an unfortunate background. I don't have a problem removing distractions with photoshop. I'm sure if earlier generations had this important tool they would have used it.

A fantastic mother son image, that have generate attention and improvement to the image. Like you I don't use photoshop, but will take a course soon! Mainly to do what was done with your fabulous image!  Warm regards.

I like it "as is."  It's a great street shot.  I think the fine lighting and the conglomeration of shapes, gender, ages, and styles makes it something to stare at.   The light strip on the side is hardly a distraction with so much else going on.

El Al will do it for sure! bank account right now... not so much. I will be back, thats for sure - just need to figure out how and when.

Yes, I am familiar with the bankroll problem. You could always immigrate at no cost to you but then you'd have no job. That would be an even bigger bankroll problem.  :-)
