on Oct 11/2009 I took some pictures I had never seen before, or thought

I would see again where this bird's reflection 'punches out' it's image to

show the coloured rocks below. the 2009 shot was in intense sunlight

and I figured that caused this effect.

 

look at my Waterton 2009 folder to see a much sharper image

 

this image was taken at dawn in an over cast sky yet created the same

effect. who can explain to me the technical reasons why?
