Tsarevets - "Ascension of Christ" patriarchal church

Inside the patriarchal church from Tsarevets, the medieval stronghold located on a hill with the same name in Veliko Tarnovo, northern Bulgaria

Tsarevets served as the Second Bulgarian Empire's primary fortress and strongest bulwark from 1185 to 1393, housing the royal and the patriarchal palaces.

The patriarchal church, built on the grounds of an Early Christian one, was reconstructed in 1981 and painted in 1985. The frescoes inside, painted in a striking modernist style rather than in the style of traditional Orthodox frescoes, depict conventional Christian subjects as well as glorious and tragic moments of the Second Bulgarian Empire.

Thank you, Pierre. The camera was handheld since there was no table whatsoever :). In this church there's no furniture; only the painted walls!

I've tried shots like this, and they're harder than they look.  I'm impressed that you got something this good hand held (unless you were lying on the floor in the center, which I doubt).  :-)   Bravo on an excellent image!
