Jessica @ 14 1\2 months

LenMarriott

Canon A540 on Manual mode with -1 stop flash compensation. Lens set to 11.8mm (71mm FF equiv) 2x Vivitar 283's bounced off white ceiling & optically triggered by camera flash. White paper background. 1\500 sec. @ f 7.1 to minimize florescent ambient light in studio. Bounced to get more even illumination in subject area. (Subjects this age tend to wander) Simple, effective set up. Best, LM.

what a darling! great lighting... seems she co-operated (mostly) with the photo shoot (and did not wonder around as you had expected)... the leg sticking out, that's where she got you

Yah, the cropped leg.  What else to do?  In a perfect world...................! Since expression is the main element in photos of kids I still consider this one an success.  Anything else that falls into place is icing on the cake.  Thanks for your interest and comments.  It's what makes this site go around, for me at least.  Best, LM.

Good to hear from you again.  Roll of white paper (53" wide) suspended from the ceiling.  Two Vivitar 283's, one on each side & about 6' out from subject, bounced from 7.5' ceiling.  Triggered by optical slaves & activated by in camera flash set to 1\2 power.  Very simple & quite effective I think.  It'll be my basic 'kids' setup for the next while.   Best, LM.

Thanks for the info., Len. I see it in the Tech Details as well. Quite a nice setup and Jessica clearly enjoys modeling for you. :)

A charming smile and baby, I was also curious about the BG , so thanks for the explanation. I like the composition even though I feel that the "cut" leg is a bit disturbing,  otherwise sweet Jessica and composition.(I do think from my experience, that it is very hard to"work" with this age of models....;-)) so I will concentrate on her contagious smile  good light and beautiful dress ,emphasized on the white BG. Enjoyed my visit.

Thanks for your visit.  I wouldn't trade a perfect expression for a perfect composition.  Not to say I wouldn't accept both in the same frame though. :-) At this age photo sessions are measured in seconds, not minutes or hours.   Best, LM.

Good of you to stop by with your views.  She'll eventually catch on & put hands on the camera.  My other two grandchildren have.  As a matter of fact my bio was taken by my (then) 6 year old grandson.  All in good time.  Best, LM.

You have taken a very good picture. Great expression. Nice eye contact. Nice highlights on the hair and finally a clean BG. Well done. Regards, ifti.

Thanks for your vote of confidence.  The model is my grand-daughter and always a pleasure and a treasure to work with.  The lighting set up and background is the result of some trial and error in looking for a set up with which I can be confident of good results and still allow a bit of wiggle room for all my grand-kids, and, believe me they all need wiggle room. :-)  Best, LM.
