Apple Annie's

Canon A540, hand held, 1\80 @ f2.6, 5.8 mm (35mm FF equiv), overcast. Approach from the alley seemed to funnel prospective customers into this popular eatery. Thought it worth investing a frame.

Well, you're definitely on my Christmas card list!  :-)  Many thanks for your vote of confidence.  Makes the decision to stop & capture this one worthwhile.  Best, LM.

You have good eyes!  I think I may have used the 'Perspective' control in Photoshop to correct a bit of key stoning in the original.  But, for most viewers, it would be hidden in the natural distortion of the wall in the foreground.  Thanks for your visit.  Best, LM.

This was a very good investment of your frame. It is nicely composed with the alley leading the eyes to the eatery. Your focus is sharp. Brick pattern and color is good. Your exposure f the well lit eatery is right on. The only thing that   I will change is a slight crop from top to eliminate  the horizontal white part of the building it is distracting.  Regards ifti

A most welcome visit & a great cropping suggestion to boot!  I agree.  I've tried cropping as you suggest & the result is indeed less distracting.  Thanks for your input.  Best, LM.

Hi Len, I like this perspective -- A good street view, leading the eyes from the alleyway to the little restaurant.  I actually don't mind the white roof of that building in your photo. It sort of works in a repetitive manner with the white the awning of the restaurant and the light colored street in your capture, imo... In removing it, one would put more emphasis on that hung structure on the top right as well, and in addition, the photo might feel a bit more 'compressed'. Did you remove it from your original capture..? Anyway, these are just my thoughts :-)  Best regards to you, Marjolein

Thanks for your most welcome visit & comments.  I had already cropped some bland sky from the original capture & I've tried Iftikhar's suggestion but you are correct that too much cropping presents other problems such as giving the air conditioning bracket on the right wall more precedence.  One could trim this all day in an attempt to get the optimum image but I'll leave this one as you see it here.  I liked the way the darker walls & paving stones of the lane helps funnel ones vision to the lighter front door of Apple Annie's.  To me, that is the biggest attraction here.  The B&W conversion eliminates any distracting colours, reducing the scene to it's essentials of shapes, tones, & textures.  Best, LM.

very lovely - I love the depth and the different shades of brick on the left side. Did she eat the apple?

I think the different shades of bricks are a result of past renovations, of old doors & windows being bricked in. And of course, the original bricks couldn't be matched.  As for the question of Annie's apple, if you had a sense of adventure you could go in & check it out as the lady entering is about to do.  :-)  Always good to hear from you.  Best, LM.
