Pierre Dumas 264 Posted July 28, 2010 Here is what I call "risky red color"! I've long time ago noticed thatthe red color doesn't show technical quality such as sharpness, details etc. Especially when picture taken with digital camera! Iwould be glad to hear something of your experience about that my dearcolleagues! Thank you in advance!PDE Link to comment
spenaloza 0 Posted July 29, 2010 Dear Pierre , this is a nice shot , I am sorry I can´t help you with this problem , I have noticed it too. How about metering in "spot" , it might help , I guess. Warm and best regards from Mexico // Salvador Link to comment
ifti 1 Posted July 29, 2010 You have a sharp focus wit translucent petals as light is bit harsh. I wish whole BG was dark as the part of bright blue sky is a distraction. It is a difficult color but I have had good success under overcast sky. There are 2 red flowers in my portfolio both taken in diffuse ambient light with good texture of the petals. Regards. ifti. sumon_mukherjee 0 Posted July 29, 2010 Just wonderful. A brilliant composition with superb light-and-shadow management. Color-effect is amazing. Yes, in digital photography, sharpness is a problem with highly saturated reds. Best regards. Link to comment

GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted July 30, 2010 Perhaps a risky color but your have managed it very well. I always have trouble with reds, and yellows for some reason. (PS....I meant no offence on my 'skeleton' image Pierre. If you go to the page, I tried to explaine....I hope you will not hold it against me..............sincerely, Gail Link to comment

rjf 0 Posted July 31, 2010 Reds and yellows...ARRGH...Try fill flash and a polarizing filter, under expose and brighten it up in processing. That formula has come close for me. Link to comment
john_nell 530 Posted August 1, 2010 Pierre,I had this problem with red flowers as the detail was lost.I found the best way to overcome this problem was to switch to raw format. Hoping this might help. Link to comment
squiver 0 Posted August 1, 2010 Ah, tulips - our national flower. This is a very nice specimen. As for the image itself, and I'm going to be brutally honest here, it looks quite random to me. One of the reasons for that is the background which I find rather distracting here - very high contrast and that piece of blue at the ulc is either distracting or there is not enough of it. If this were mine, I would have prefered to have just the black background or just the blue sky - especially with high contrast conditions like here. Second, with multiple shapes that are all the same color and texture, I would either include more of them so that the lack of separation is not an issue, or try to isolate one or a couple of them - the graphic qualities of the shot would be much higher with more separation imho. Finally, I think the shot is cropped/framed a bit tight - both the edges of the flower on the right and the main flower are almost touching the edges of the frame. Hope that makes sense.
