From the bottom of the old shoebox. Exposure not recorded. Possibly 1\2 to 1 sec. @ f16 Negative scanned on Epson V500. Minor tweaking with entry level skill set in Photoshop. Best, LM.

You captured this image very well, I like the exposure time that you used. I do think that a longer exposure would have made a greater effect, however, it would be difficult with this lighting. Great work!

Thanks for taking the time & effort to respond. And welcome to Photo.net.  You're off to a good start, postings of your own and comments on others' work.  No guts, no glory, as they say.  Yes, the lighting here did dictate the extremes one could go to on exposure time.  I had no filters, ND or Polarizing, at the time to cut the light back so I was stuck with the times around 1 sec.  I've found for falling water, for my tastes anyway, that anywhere from about 1\15 to 1 sec works well.  Longer times give that silky satin look to water which, if that's what you're after, is OK too.  (invoke artistic license)  Just not always to my tastes.  Don't be a stranger.  Best, LM.

This series of water falls is very impressive, the light here is so well controlled and the effect of the slow shutter is outstanding.

Wishing you all of the best.

Thanks for your kind appraisal.  There was just a little of the 'sweet' light left when I took these.  Should have been there 5 min. earlier I fear.  I'm happy with the results in any case.  Pulled from the bottom of an old shoebox and 9 years old but I didn't have a scanner for 120 size until last Christmas.  Best, LM.

Awesome photo Len! I won't say awesome shot as it is evident a lot of thought went into this composition! Great light and range of exposures. The colour in the sky without washout is the icing on the cake! I expect these falls are photographed a lot and that this is probably one of the best available of them all! Excellent effort!

"Welcome Back Cotter!"  Where you been?  Making great images, I suspect.  Yah, the sky:  When it's bare I try to cover it up with something.  Tree branches usually work. :-)  The little colour that's there is a bonus.  This location is where I got my Vivitar 2800 flash unit.  Found it on the sandy banks of the river. It was brand new & probably dropped from someone's bag.  If anyone can come up with a serial number for it I'll give it back.  Free up a day in the fall & I'll take you up there for a re-shoot.  Best, LM.

All of that series, but this is my favorite, because it has the surrounding as well. I love the little bushes on the R side, so small and delicate in front of the rushing water.I like the energy of water on the rocks, strong, flowing! and than the wonderful DOF with the  calm ones. I like the close branches on the L and the whole forest around till the sky at the very end.... The light and exposure ,as well as the color palette are spot on. Very well composed, Len.

Thanks for your thoughts on these oldies that I recently pulled from an old (2001) shoebox.  All of your positive comments have helped me make up my mind to revisit this location in the near future. Stay tuned!  I'll try for some different perspectives hopefully in flattering light.  Best, LM.

Len, I prefer this image, though the other two shots are very good. Admirable composition, very good exposure ,light & colors. Beautiful landscape.

I agree.  This is my favourite of the three also.  I was pleased with the outcome though, not to rest on my laurels, I plan another expedition to this location to fill in some blanks, to add some more views of this falls hopefully with similar results.  Best, LM.

Too true!  And the beauty can be found very near where we live.  No need to go afar to exotic locations.  (though a bonus if we are able to).  Best, LM.

Len this is very good, perfect scene for a square, and well composed. The LR is my starting point, then go from LL to UR, center and UL with the branches form a nice echo of the waterfall edge. 5 minutes before ? Could have been rewarding, or too much contrast, maybe

Link to comment

Yes, the starting point would indeed be the lower right as that is the brightest point in the frame.  Five minutes earlier would have been just fine.  The contrast would still have been manageable at that time.  Sometimes one can wait for better light but if you've missed the setting sun you have to wait until the next day (not necessarily the following day)  that lighting conditions are nearly the same.  Thanks for your input.  Always appreciated.  Best, LM.

Out of the three 'falls' this one I like the best. Your timing is good resulting in smooth flow of water. Foreground is sharp. Side branches provide nice framing. Far trees need a a bit boost in sat/contrast. Well done. Regards, ifti.

Thanks for your visit and your constructive critique.  Some features were planned, some can be rectified post exposure, and some are luck.  Shouldn't be hard to figure out which is which.  :-)  Best, LM.

fabulous light and very good capture. I particularly like the light and shade at the bottom right side. My only suggestion would be to level the image but i could be wrong in my assessment.

Thanks for your input. You could be right.  Should I decide to print this one I'll experiment with rotating this one a bit.  I think it's an optical illusion but if it looks better rotated then that's what I'll do.  Best, LM.
