Thanks for your thoughts. These clouds were moving at a tremendous pace, and they were so dramatic I knew I wanted a photo. But my experience is that clouds by themselves do not make for much of an image. Thus, I frantically searched for something to place in the image. Since the clouds were my focus, I did not give the foreground much thought. A few minutes later and the clouds were much less dramatic.

well, you aligned it well enough. Spooky clouds and a spooky building.  Good combination.  Hey, Dave, if you don't have much hair remaining on your head, you could have used your head as the complementary object, and call it maybe like "a comet entering earth's atmoshpere".  Nice photo.  Cheers, Micheal

I agree that the perspective really adds to the drama here and I think the building you chose to complement the sky works really well. I also agree that a little more foreground would have grounded it a bit more. Interestingly, I feel the same way about one of my most recent "landscape" type shots, which I don't do very often. I've been trying my hand at some different kinds of shots and enjoying it a lot, realizing how much there still is to learn. My instincts with portraits are much more finely tuned than my instincts at other kinds of work, so it's exciting to be reaching out a little. Looking at your work always plants seeds in my head.

It is a beautiful moment of an approaching storm. There is still some blue in the sky and a touch of light behind the house,( thunderbolt? ) but the dark menacing cloud is the dramatic protagonist...., "ecncircling" the house and  area.It is a very good timing,  DOF, light play and atmospher. Impressive weather/landscape photo..

You might have been in a hurry to locate a foreground building but your natural photographic instincts took over from there. The composition and the angle at which you positioned the building really gives the picture a sense of scale and intensifies the drama of the approaching storm.

Oh, I am nuts about grain elevators, and, stormy skies.  What a beautiful  combination you have here.  Just wonderful, expansive, foreboding . . .  the colors go well together. . .  The town is a little dark but the foreground speaks so loud and clear it is not too noticeable - and I realize, one has only so many kilabytes in this format.

Thanks !!
