Yeh, I'm a 'Rebel'...(Canon must have named my Camera for a reason!

some of us do exist I guess!)...purposely didn't use the 'rule of thirds' as

I wanted you to see just a bit of the 'expanse' above the Vendors'

Tent 'Facade'. I cropped quite a bit off. For just a 3 day Festivity, quite

a bit of work went into the 'Rib Alley'. This move to Peterborough has

really been a treat. Not only do they have these types of Festivities on

in other parks on the weekend, the bars and pubs have great

entertainment also during the week. Also on Wednesday and Saturday

nights we have our MUSIC FEST at beautiful Little Lake Park. I would

have gone, but we were under a severe thunderstorm watch. (Many

thanks for viewing, Gail)

Bah humbug to the "rule of thirds" I think it should be more aptly named "Guide of thirds"  as there are countless images that really work that disregard the rule. This shot seems to me though, to be not far off and works perfectly well compositionaly.

Now my interpretation of the image is a bit gory, as the character wielding the huge knife seems a bit sinister. As I wasn't witness to the "Fest" (which sounds brilliant by the way) I have to rely on what I see before me.  "The texas chainsaw massacre" springs to mind, though I'm sure this wasn't your intention, Are you sure thats BBQ sauce and not  blood? I'd better stop with my imaginative speculations as I'm starting to scare myself! : - )

I like the way you have processed this Gail It has a poster like qaulity that is appealing ......in a chilling way.  In fact "Boss Hogs" could use this as thier advertising logo, with a slogan something like "Come to us for your BBQ or we'll come to you for our meat joints!" Catchy huh?

Very well done Gail

Regards

Alf

Looks pretty thirdish to me.

His body's in the right vertical third and his hat/head in the top horizontal third.

Anyway, creepy atmosphere.

Something about the knife, the blood and the cheery t-shirt and colors probably.

Thankyou for your humour and fun comments.  I straighented the image, and lost the ribs on the grill.....so what do I do....straighted for fear there are those who will give me a hard time as it obviously needs to be straightened...?  or leave as is, and let everyone see a crooked image without the ribs???

Anyhow.....so far I know it is 'chilling'....gritty... creepy......I'd hope folks would look at the other images and realize it it s 'RIBFEST'.....(not just your comment) I get your sense of humour...

Buy I guess not.  Thankyou however for your kid words mixed in. Welcome and a relief.  Many thanks for your support.  Sincerely, Gail

Nice processing Gail it really grabs attention.

This cropping could make a pretty good poster, I think. The space at the top just begs for a title.

You did pretty good at the Ribfest. Ribs, I'm sure, Possible cool beer, and a basket of images.  Obviously a very worthwhile day.

All my best,   Bill

Thanks so much Bill.....good to know you understand the images, I see what you mean by the 'space at the top begs for a title'.....I would have cropped shorter, but as explained, wanted folks to  see the top of the tent set ups .....all the 'busy - ness' that exists above the vendors.

But I am glad to know that a Titile would fit nicely there.  I agree.  It was a great time, and a chance for me to at last do some 'street shots'...........Thanks for your visit, Gail

I actually would have cropped shorter if I didn't want to reveal to the viewers the 'area' above the vendors.  But you must be right.  I should look up the Rule of Thirds again.....and get that one straightened out.  Besides the fact that if people view the other images, they would know it was a 'Ribfest' and you need a 'knife' to cut the ribs....and you 'nearly always put 'sauce' on the ribs.

Also, if I hadn't straightened the image a bit, I would not have lost the RIBS below the knife., and it wouldn't look so 'creepy'......and it probably is my moniter, but I see 'sauce' which is close to a 'reddish-brown; and due to the line-ups they were dividing the ribs up in 'record numbers'......I think if you had been there, you would have understood better.  I did not post for otheres to think this a 'creepy atmosphere.....with the 'knife, and the blood,......and I do not understand what you mean by 'cheery Tshirt'

It's just a Tshirt...yes it says 'Boss Hogs', but it is the name used by the 'Ribs Vendor' and they won the 'contest' last year.  All the food was cooked well, there was no blood, there was lots of sauce though...but it is usually put on Ribs and other Barbacue foods.

I apologise if my moniter is not callibrated right and it looks like a 'bloody image' ............this truly was not intended.   Nor did I intend it to look CREEPY.............but we all are allowed our own view of images.  Thank you for your honesty, and my apologies if you found this so distasteful.

Another lesson on 'street shots'....thankyou for our input. Comments well taken, sincerely, GAil

An excellent poster-style image that captures the 'flavor' of the event very well.  It makes ya wanna Pig Out!

As for the R.O.T.... think more about 'balance' than precise position or proportion.  Does the composition 'feel' right? Then go with it!

Counterapology.

I didn't mean to sound negative. (Creepy is good...)

Plus my colorperception is a little off.

Plus I tend to ignore titles and just see the image and feel how it hits me.

Anyway,  I hope the fest was fun and I'll be sure to revisit for new work.
