Well, based on suggestions to the last two cloud pictures I posted, I

worked on this one and increased the contrast. How did I do? Better?

Thanks,

Diane

I didn't see the others, but in general clouds are part of a landscape scene rather than isolated by themselves. I am sure there are some exceptional cloud formations that will stand alone but I think this will be the exception.

As far as these clouds I think the contrast is reasonable to add drama. I guess that is the shoulder of a mountain peeping through on right. One thing you see with sharpening is that the sky gets granular. A lot of times when sharpening it is good to mask the sky so as to avoid sharpening it. You have to decide on a case by case basis.   Regards.

Ok. Now I am looking at your portfolio. Yes the contrast is a good addition to sharpen the edges of the clouds.

Interesting shot. The increased contrast creates an angrier sky beginning to form. Nice job. - Charles

Robert and Charles,

Many thanks for your comments on the photos.

Robert - the darker blue area that you thought was the shoulder of a mountain is actually just part of the storm clouds.  I don't think I've ever seen clouds with light playing off them like this before. It was just too good to miss!

I only saw the thumbnail images for the rest of the cloud photographs, but this one stood out for me as being the most interesting. Maybe that is because of the additional processing you did with contrast and sharpening. Nice work.

Shawn - thanks for the comment on this shot.  It does show better in the thumbnail.  I really don't like to do much post processing, so I tend to just crop, adjust contrast levels a bit and then post.
