An umbrella in a fountain? For protection against the water? Yes,

that's what these boys were doing, yet the better bet was protection

from the sun, which was not really in their plan, as I observed. No

matter what, your ratings and critiques are invited and most welcome. If

you rate harshly, very critically or wish to post a remark, please submit

a helpful and constructive comment; please share your photographic

knowledge to help improve my photography. Thanks! Enjoy! John

This languished with low rates and low views most of the day; your comment and new higher rates will help give it some viewers.

Of  the three posts today, I thought it was the best -- the true 'street' photo that showed the greatest skill rather than just relying on interesting 'subject matter'.

Here I transformed an ordinary scene into something that had balance and a bit of surrealness (umbrellas in fountain, plus composition).

It was my first choice and remains so.

I'm not such a good picker of popular taste, however, which is why I post these photos for critique, where 'popular taste' among photo aficionados is rather well understood and acknowledged by me, no matter how practiced or elite my tastes (in my own mind).

You can't beat the raters in general for coming to a sense of 'popularity' if not always 'the best', but you're pretty good at picking 'the best' too.

Thanks.

This is your style, n'est-ce pas? Or close to it?  I have always admired your work, hope you see this comment some day and maybe reply.

Your admirer,

That with my wide angle zoom I left in too much extraneous area and had to crop this slightly, all sides, to get it right.

I'm glad I did; it's just so now.

Your comment helps me verify that, plus now I've analyzed the composition (strange I didn't before, but that comes afterward, composition for me comes from somewhere in the 'gut feeling' which I can 'see' even if I can't define it (like Justice Potter Stewart on pornography.)

This one just worked out extremely well, and one secret to my success at being productive is to shoot a lot, then be a VERY GOOD photo editor -- (my profession at one time, but news photos then.)

But I shoot far from randomly.

I value most the advice of Elliot Erwitt when asked about what was correct exposure?  A.  F8 and 'be there' was his answer.

I was there.

Camera in hand properly set for the photo.

That's all and the rest I took don't matter at all so long as I can pick the one good one.

Thanks Tommy for a helpful and confirming comment.

Thank you so much.

But you might also look at the work of Frederic Pascual.

His work might stun you.

He no longer contributes much if at all, but still is a member.

His photos dominate the pages of photos like these -- wide angle street photos.

Happy looking;  thanks for the high compliment.
