Night Of The Cobra

Safari in the African night is exiting, yet I find it difficult to getan artistic satisfying image in complete darkness.

This spitting cobra crossed the gravel road I was travelling on. Idimmed the headlights and jumped out of my landcruiser with my 80-200zoom. I roughly calculated a possible striking distance and fell flatdown on my stomach in front of the now angry snake pressing the cameraagainst my face as a cover. After a series of exposures during whichthe cobra was spitting its poision at me I slowly crawled backwardsand let the reptil vanish into the night. The front of my lens wasfull of venom drops - each one of those drops deadly many times overfor a human.

I like this image because it shows the beautiful elegance of thismajestic snake and the black night blends nicely with the shades ofgrey and black of the cobra.

This is a pretty good shot to me but the story makes it great.
