This young 'princess' encounters an older, and perhaps wiser and

certainly most interesting looking 'fairy princess' in Kyiv, Ukraine. Your

ratings and critiques are invited and most welcome. If you rate harshly,

very critically, or wish to insert a remark, please submit a helpful and

constructive comment; please share your photographic knowledge to

help improve my photography. Thanks! Enjoy! John

I'm not so sure the 'fairytale princess isn't a 'fairy prince', given the rough skin texture, some great height and other more masculine characteristics.

But I'm not into discrimination.  This is a great scene, regardless of sex or sexuality.  The 'prince/princess' was perfectly gentle with the young girl and showed greatest consideration -- a parent couldn't have asked for more from a 'statue' of a prince/princess.

Thanks for commenting.

You sometimes can see this individual on Kyiv's 'main street' in from of the famous American fast food restaurant at the main Metro entrance - yes, that one, and on top of a stone wall leading from the park area to the street along with some others (until the militsia chase them away).

Whenever the group of them is there, they draw quite a crowd and take some substantial donations; maybe the militsia are jealous?

Or does it require a permit to imitate a statue?

;~))

A powerful photograph with a strong gender statement as well. The range of tones is fascinating. Best regards.

First the tones:  This is taken in shade with a long extension (not full) on a 70-200 f 2.8 Nikkor, and thus has wonderful bokeh (out of focus areas, see background).  The person, left, is covered in blue/silver makeup and sports a costume of the same color (hence desaturation.  The girl is entirely natural.

This was the perfect photo for simply giving a full range of tones without working too hard (some work obviously went into it, however).

As to the 'gender statement' since the 'fairy princess' has an unknown or even a masculine gender, I am not sure what to make of your statement about a 'strong gender statement'.  Perhaps you can enlighten, as I am a little confused myself, not having paid too much attention to her/his actual gender since it wasn't necessary for 'the photo's' success.

My best to you, and thanks for commenting.
