This is the centre of Duut Soum the highest district centre inMongolia, situated in the Altai Mountains. Seeing this photo, shot inApril 2009, it is difficult to imagine that the main occupation of thepopulation living there is livestock herding.Altai refers to gold and there is some small scale gold mining ongoingin this area.

Which of those buildings is the multiplex cinema? Wonderful panorama of high country barreness.

Dear Rashed and GungaJim, thanks for your comments. It is a pitty that we can not download a 2 meter panorama on pn. Of course then it would be easy to show you the Imax Cinema Hall and all the cultural sites of the town ;-). One of my favourites is the pool bar in a small building in the middle of the central square. Unfortunately I was not lucky to shoot photos there as the policeman and some officials and notables left when I entered with my camera and the remaining ones who were hanging around there wanted money.
