Late afternoon light spills over Franconia Ridge to illuminate the

Pemigewasset Wilderness in NH's White Mountains. While the colorful

sunset skies never materialized, I liked the softness produced by the

humid day. Two images were used to create the expansive view.

Generally, landscapes with lots of green foliage don't work for me, but I

thought the mix of rock and new foliage and evergreens broke up the

monotony. The large rocks in the FG may not work for everyone, but

other compositional options were less attractive ( large flat rock areas,

and trail). The view if from atop Mount Liberty.

Great sky, looks like one that you would expect to produce a light show at sunset, but I too have seen good skies like this fizzle. They say "a watch pot never boils". Still, a very nice shot. The foreground boulder is closer to center than I would have chose, but just my POV. Hey, congrats on the OP first place. You deserve that one. I think yours was the best. If I recall correctly, that is one of the first shots that caught my eye when you first came onto PNet. Good for you Harry!!

Thanks Mark, yeah the OP image was one of my earlier images-an oldie but goodie.  Regarding their contests, it seems that some images are re-entered for each of the contests regardless of the contest title.  I would think the images should be a bit more representative of the theme to avoid the re-submissions.  Anyway, I really wanted to showoff the beautiful granite, after all we are the Granite State!  I needed something to break up the green, and this was the best I could come up with. It may work better as a single image, with the boulder to the right, peak to the left.  I used 2 images to make this, so that is still a possibility.
