Bob,

Thank you! I was concerned that the fog won't be visible in the small picture on the WWW, and that the figures of the Roosevelt elk would be too small to be noticed...

Diane,

This is Prairie Creek Redwood State Park, in Northern California -- more than 300 miles north from San Francisco. The area where you can find Roosevelt elk are marked by road signs  -- it's just off rte. 101. There are other type of elk -- the Tule elk -- much closer to San Francisco, at the Point Reyes National Seashore, but there you need longer lens than what I have (nothing longer than 200 mm).

Thank you Mikhail, too bad it is too far away for me.  I live in northern British Columbia.  I did manage to get a picture of an elk my last trip up north but as I seen it while I was driving. By the time I backed up she was already on the move which is too bad she had her baby with her.  I did get one shot of her and the baby but there is a fence post right through the mothers face.  Oh well,  happy shooting to you and I will be back

Diane,

Yes, it would be quite a drive for you! I hope one day to venture north from California all the day to BC, but right now I am lucky enough to get as far as northern California. I have posted one more shot of the elk at the Prairie Creek Redwood State Park, grazing right next to the park buildings. Apparently, they feel very safe there.
