That surname's familiar, any relation to Roger? Beautiful child : fabulous detail in the face, a very mature look in the eyes.

This candid photo was taken about 8 o'clock at night at the end of

this little girl's 5th birthday party, after the games, after the

presents had been opened, after the ice cream and cake, after the

last of her young friend had gone home.

Brooks, what you have done here is exactly what i think portraits should be made of. They should convey the emotions of the model. tell her/his story, even if it is momentarily. Her eyes are a vast ocean of emotions, happy weariness, expectations, hope. A child's regard, not yet spoilt by the bitter experiences that quite often come with age.

From the photographic point of view my only disagreement is with the composition where I believe she should have been placed a bit off centered (some of her new toys, out of focus of course, in the background, would have added some context but I understand that thinking too much about the image would have taken away the impact of the surprise in her eyes)

As is the case with all of your posted work, great tonal range & beautiful skin tones. I'm not a big fan of hair in the face, but I have to give it to you here....could that strand around her right eye be more perfectly placed?

Great look, inviting all kinds of conjecture. My first thought - it's been a long day for her! Comment about going straight for her eyes is dead on. I do wonder what she is looking at, looks like it is a point a little above the camera, at least with her left eye.

It's a beautiful photograph. -I don't really care for the harsh/hard lighting though.

Bingo! The best photo's are those telling a story. Those who let you feel the emotion as if you were there at the moment the picture was taken. This is such an intriging photo. Well done.

This is a truely classic shot - such clarity - the face is perfect - the eyes are perfect and the hair is perfect - there is a wonderfully soft professional / classic pro photographer feel to this image - well done 7/7
