3m 0 Posted June 13, 2010 It could be the particular color yellow, or possibly the woman's attire, but your photo conveys a touch of a contemporary Vermeer feeling to me -- I like your square crop of this, which really does justice to the composition's setting, imo. Very nice, Gunnar! Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted June 13, 2010 Just wonderful, Gunnar, it feels like something out of the world of Vermeer. The clarity of the light and purity of the color is astounding. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted June 13, 2010 A wonderful composed scene in perfect timing. Your post treatment has turned this into nearly an old oil painting. Excellent......again! Take good care my friend and all the best from Jannica Link to comment
karolostrivizas 1 Posted June 13, 2010 It really looks like a Vermeer painting Gunnar. The warm light the clarity and the unforced pose of the woman create an excellent scene..... Link to comment
mark_q 0 Posted June 13, 2010 You managed to create a very classic Dutch painting mood on this one by colors and low luminosity level. I almost can smell the oils oozing from your wonderful work. Could this be shot in Old Town Tallinn? Link to comment

gunnar1664882369 1 Posted June 13, 2010 Thank you so much for your kind words my friends. Markku, this is taken on Town Hall Square (Raekoja plats) in Tallinn where restaurants waitresses are dressed on medieval style. Best regards. Link to comment
mark_q 0 Posted June 13, 2010 Thanks for the info. I think it's the same restaurant I have visited twice so far. Sorry, can't remember the name and don't have a map near me... Link to comment

axel-cordes 0 Posted June 13, 2010 Marjolein tried to find the bottom why Vermeer directly comes into mind. I agree on the colour theme and on the pose including the way she is dressed. What I like most here is the tender hand, the tone of the skin there and the white of cloth in her hand, but also on the head cloth, may be the missing hard shadows...A picture to look to much longer then the few seconds - it asks for viewing and taking the time which it deserves.Walks into my favourites.Regards Axel Link to comment
dgv 1 Posted June 13, 2010 El mentioned it first...before I saw her comment and I saw the picture I had the same thought...Vermeer. Well seen Gunnar. Link to comment
juan carlos rivera 0 Posted June 14, 2010 Beautiful composition, excellent pictorical color. Congrats. Link to comment
brano_k 0 Posted June 15, 2010 Composition is great, shine off the otherwise pitch black window grating, all perspective lines go to top right corner: wonderful crop. And the colours are just all the warm earth tones of the old Dutch masters. It will always be impossible to date this photo and that is its greatest quality - timeless. Congratulations! pnital 36 Posted June 18, 2010 I join the rest, as I have done a research of Vermeer's art ,and have staged a series as a homage to his work. I can appreciate that beauty of a composition. The window light was a very well used light in his work, I wonder where is the source of light here, as this window is black. Well executed( If you are interested , take a look at the presentation on my front page : "Follow the light") Link to comment
gunnar1664882369 1 Posted June 18, 2010 Thank you all for your nice comments! Pnina, your galleries are very strong with excellent Vermeer-like use of light from window. This scene is an out-door one. The street restoran is open for summer season and the open-air day light was used. Best regards. Link to comment
blue-olympus 0 Posted June 18, 2010 Stands out instantly as a likeness to Vermeer's work, not only the costume but also the tones and colouring...Bravo..well done Gunnar! Link to comment
LindaM 2 Posted June 27, 2010 A step back in time. I agree with everybody above. A wonderful work Gunnar! Link to comment
chris_panagiotidis 0 Posted September 16, 2010 I have come across this photo jewel several times , and finding some time to comment on it, I was left without arguments for a creative appraisal of such a fine specimen in the field of street photography. The scene is attractive on its own, but it is elevated to stardom only due to the mind behind the camera. I couldn't agree more with the Vermeer comments, it is far too obvious; I would just add that this impression is greately owed to the compressed perspective that is also evident in the ouevres of the Flemmish master. The almost cut-out waitress' figure and the perspective highlighted by the benches give-along with the painterly palette, an aura that is mesmerizingly captivating. My humble compliments and respectful regards. Link to comment
