Nicely placed in the frame. Interesting thoughtful expression. Good sharp focus on hair, eye lashes and their shadow. Poor light as eyes are in shade. Eyes should be bright enough to communicate. Regards ifti

William,

She is a pretty girl. You have focused well on her eyes. Her skin tone is good. I like her make-up. She is well separated from the background. The composition is good. She has more room in front of her than behind which allows her to be looking into the picture rather than out of it.

Even though the composition is technically correct, it does look like a lot of room in front of her. If you cropped more into the back of her head you would need less room in front of her. You could even use a vertical format. After all, she is a vertical subject.

Her expression is pleasant, but it really isn't saying anything to me. It is kind of blah. She doesn't have much life to her expression.

The background is nicely neutral, but I would like to see a more gradual gradation from with white to a lighter gray. You don't want it to be noticeable to the viewer. The edges are darkened -- not just one side -- to help keep the viewer's eyes within the photograph.

Your lighting would look better if the main light was going towards her face. That way her eyes would be lit and she could have some nice shadows towards the rear of her cheek. Hopefully, she would have better catch lights to give her eyes life. She also would not have the shadows from her eyelashes on her nose.

You really have a split profile -- not a profile. A profile would not have any of her far eye showing. Be careful of split profiles. You do not want the tip of her nose to come close to touching the far cheek line. You want to make sure the far eye is either completely showing or not showing at all. You do not want to have the bridge of her nose cut into her far eye.

Nice shot,

Mark

I think it is a lovely portrait of your grandsughter William. She seems to be  lost in thought and contemplation.  Very nice skin tones and lighting.  Sincerely, Gail
