Uncropped at 35mm film equiv 850mm.  This guy was not looking all that small and skinny at this point.  That contrived shoulder hump was quite unsettling and evoked a viseral response.  He combined this posturing with mock charges across our 'bow'.  My dog's demeanor:  after a short whimper he had a defeated posture and did not look in the direction of the coyote at all.  Although I kept taking pictures I felt things were not going well.

I am interested on two levels. The shot and the behavior of the coyote. First the shot, if the face were in focus just a little stronger... then the blur, motion, out of focus of the body would be ignored more easily. But, great shot to me. Since I look at the shots of others against the accomplishments I have achieved, this is a fantastic shot since all I have are several blurry pictures of coyote tails disappearing into brush or some such. A good shot showing agression and power. Regarding the behavior, why did he stand his ground? They always turn tail and run for me and I wonder, is there a den, or pups involved? Why the major agression?

Craig:  thanks for the comments and I tend to agree about the focus issue.  Darn!  His aggression:  his pup had investigated my dog and me as I was taking pictures of birds, pup too quick for me!  I was waiting for the pup to get curious again when Dad showed up.  The den can't be too far from here, maybe a quarter mile.

Hi Charles, Yeah it's blurry but the moment redeems that. Nice shot.  I assume that you tried some sharpening.   See you out there.
