This portrait really struck me.  It has many good things about it, so I hope you don't mind if I make some suggestions on how I might choose to improve it.  I love the angle you've chosen, and the lighting is basically quite good.  It looks like there is another person off to the left, and I think this distracts from the image, so I've chosen to get rid of that one bright white spot and then I burned the upper left side of the image so as to focus more on your subject.  I did a really fast and primitive job of this, but hopefully you get the idea.  Then I simply added a tiny bit of contrast and sharpening, which I like to bring out the rugged complexion.  Lastly, I dodged his hair just a bit to bring out some highlights in it so it doesn't look completely dark.  There are many here on PN who know much more about this than me, but with my limited knowledge, that's what I would probably do.  Overall, you've got a great image here, and it's nice to know your work.
