This is the first (albeit maybe not the best) addition to a whole new series of work I will be presenting which features remote sandstone slots and canyons you likely have not seen photographed before.   The sandstone imagery will still be only a small part overall of my largest release of new work ever over the coming month.

The various rich colors and hues present here are the result of how the eye, and the camera even more so, record reflections from direct light from opposing walls and different color temperatures onto the already very colorful sandstone.

In this case, I visited the location four times and spent many hours here perfecting the light and composition as best I could.

Definitely one of my favorite slot canyon photos I've ever seen, and one of my favorites from your recent travels.  Gorgeous work my friend! 7/7

Ah yes, life on photo.net.  You need ratings to get your images seen more, and yet, the SAME PEOPLE have gone through all of my new posts today and given them the SAME 4/3 ratings multiple times (they know they can't get away with 1/1's, so they do the worst they can).  Of course, without explaining anything.  You gotta love this site, eh?  For humor sake at least...

You all know I always respond to any honest questions or critiques, and I thank those who take the time to say anything at all.

If I were you I would actually take this down, and resubmit it another day.  The ratings abuse on this is out of control.

No, it occurs every single time I post right now.  It's the SAME exact people doing it.  It's 4/3 or 4/4, 2-3 times within the same very short span of time, usually only a few minutes.  I've reposted the same image five times to no avail. The Gorge shot I submitted got two 4/3's within a few minutes, as did this and the others.  It's planned sabotage of my work.  You can easily click through the 'rate recent' category that fast if you know what you're looking for.

Hi Marc.

Lovely images (I really like this one).  I will bring your concerns up to some of the other moderators for their input.

I've learnt to ignore the arsehole/s and just be bemused by them. Take it as a compliment. It's not as though ratings mean anything. I'm glad to see some more slot canyons in your portfolio. You've really emphasized the swirls in this environment and the lighting is perfect. The tiny triangle of bright sandstone in the top left is a bit distracting bit I guess it achieves a sort of symmetry with the right side.

Nice! Have seen a lot of images from Antelope Canyon, but this is good.

This is really nice work Marc, well done!  As far as those raters you were talking about I think the ratings should only be open to those PAYING members of photo.net.  That would weed out a lot of people, yes?

I like this shot also - the shapes and colors are incredible. Seems almost abstract.

About the ratings you get - if you dont like them, why not just ignore them. Or, as i understand it, you can turn the option to rate a photo off. Your photos also make a lot of people leave a comment. You should be happy about that. And again, I might be wrong, but it dosent look like you coment on other peoples work.

Alternative could be a site, where noone but the best photographers are allowed access. Im sure you could find such place too.

I really like this shot and I think its one of your best southwest shots so far. I think it could be better if not for the distracting top left corner -- I think if the contrast of the top left were mitigated a bit (or just removed) the shot would be better. Hope you don't mind but I've attached a quick edit to show you what I mean.

As far as the low ratings -- it certainly is ridiculous, but I think it may just be the way things are for everyone here -- really too bad photo.net hasn't done anything about it really. Good luck.

Dear 4/3 raters, keep in mind that you are only coward evious, keep off the photos like this. You are the n.1, Marc, congrats.

Hey, just to answer a few questions here, I do also like the crop option.  I've considered it many times.

Regarding the ratings, it's just hard to accept when I feel it's the same people every time doing it on purpose to my images.   You do need ratings to be more visible on this site, and I'd expect visibility is something just about all of us here would like.

Regarding the comments, I'm a full-time professional landscape photographer.  I'm gone half the year and the other half I'm busy like crazy running a business.  I don't have much time, but I'd like to think I've left a fair amount of useful commentary on this site.  I've elaborated many, many times on my own techniques and any questions that have been asked of me.  I've shared everything and I think many people appreciate that.  I have certainly commented on hundreds and maybe thousands of photos here over the years, but please forgive me if I simply can't contribute as regularly as some do right now.   I'm not complaining about any lack of comments from others.

Jan - Just FYI, neither this shot, nor any of my slot canyon shots are from Antelope Canyon.    Thanks.

Another beautiful shot Marc.  It feels like the light is flowing down from the top of the frame.  Great composition here with all the lines/curves.  - Scott

Great patterns and colours Marc, just disregard the 3/4 rating cowards, they do it to all of us. Keep up the good work.

Just like everything else you share with us, Mark, this is just extraordinary.

About the 4/3 ratings, as you know, the internet provides a warm, damp breeding ground for lower life forms.  The anonymity provided by this setting allows cowards to say and do things that would get them punched-out if they were to do them face-to-face.

Thanks again.

Joe
