Smith Rock, River View

Shot in late morning, mixture of sun and clouds--unfortunately, the clouds wouldn't move around to get into this view. f16 @ 1/8, orange filter

Comments, ratings, suggestions appreciated on this traditional black

and white landscape. Taken at Smith Rock State Park--sometimes

compared to Yosemite because of monoliths and shear rock faces. World

class rock climbers flock here from all over the world. Often times

hundreds are hanging from these rocks. I'm especially interested in

comments on printing and composition. I have a few others (taken

earlier) of this same subject in this portfolio.

Thanks.

Neat. If anything, I'd maybe ant to burn very slightly the foreground's brighter areas, but I'm not even really sure. Composition looks ok to me as well. Regards.

Hey! I was here this week, tuesday to be exactly. Quick hike to the saddle and up to the rock that sits in the middle. Is it called the pheonix? something over there is called the pheonix. I think I took a bizillion shots from over there facing the direction of where you were standing on this shot. Ok, I was shooting film so it wasnt a bizillion more like 12-14. Did you hike to monkey face? now, I have to comb your folders and see if you have anymore from here.

Knicki, I've hiked through the whole park twice and pieces of it a few more times. This is the best photo I could muster and I made a very nice 12x16 inch b&w print of this one. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed Smith Rock. It's one of my favorite places in Oregon, especially early in the morning before to many people arrive. Next time I go (in late August), I'm going to photograph rock climbers.

Are you going to climb too? The tofu eater and the kids want to take the climbing lessons that are offered there. I plan on staying on the ground and shooting. Landscape shots dont scare me nearly as much as heights.

I feel I'm too old to take up rock climbing. My theory on hiking/climbing is if you need gear to do it, count me out!
