A very interesting and story telling image.  However your mid-tones are all shifted toward the left side of the histogram which makes the picture look dark, even though it seems to be a bright day.  Adding the black frame exaggerates this effect.

I copied your picture without frame, modified the tonality and upload it for your inspection.  I did this rapidly and may not have hit upon the optimum tones, but you can see what is possible.
