Preserved Past

In the old part of the Serbian town of Valjevo, on the right bank of

Kolubara river, Tesnjar downtown area is well preserved and restored.

Tesnjar has numerous workshops where contemporary and old crafts are

practiced including now rare crafts: weavers,saddlers,potters,

candelmakers....

Tesnjar is composed of buildings from 18th and 19th centuries built in

oriental style. the architecture is modest and national but

illustrates economic situation of the time when it was made. The urban

ambient of old "market place" Tesnjar in Valjevo is proclaimed as the

monument of culture and protected by law. The aim is protection of the

ambient which has special characteristics and enriches the town.
