Great idea and an interesting shot.  As a retired aviator this really caught my eye.  I like the mood and the composition.  Maybe crop out the horizon at the bottom right...or add a thin strip across the bottom?  Also, maybe bump up the contrast a bit to get the contrails to pop out a bit more?  Just some thoughts for a relative newcomer to this game.  But very nice image overall.  I looked at your portfolio, too...wow, do you get around!  The shots of Argentina brought back memories as I lived and traveled there for three years...and the images of Antarctica/South Georgia had me envious!

Daniel,

thanks very much for your critiques, kind comments & appreciation.

The original shot is a color one & only after I made it in greyscale on my computer, I could tweak the image in such a way that the contrast between the old & trecent contrails became really visible. The strip, at bottom right, is the tip of the sloping horizon which, IMO, grounds the image to the earth.

The cloud formation over Europe is very much influenced by contrails of the enormous number of commercial flights over the continent.

Cheers, Sam.

Thanks, Sam.  I'm still learning.  The "grounding" idea with the horizon...I now see what you are getting at.
