In need of some serious repair, but still retaining it's victorian charm. I

really hope it gets the investment it deserves before it's lost forever.

Your thoughts and comments are always welcome. Thank you.

Alf...  Great late afternoon shot with the pier looking like a comfortable oasis in this mysterious sea... Mike

Wonderful atmosphere and very well composed Alf. You have really picked the right spot to shoot from so the full glory of the pier really comes to place. Beautiful post treatment, bringing out some magic and filled with amazing, sharp details. The blue tone adds to the total impression. A fine presentation from you....again. Take good care now and all the best tou you and the family.

Greetings from Stockholm

Excellent shot of this old pier Alf. Love the blue tones to seas, and sky. Really makes the pier stand out. Nicely done.

All the best,
Neil

My appearance on this planet occured in Colwyn Bay quite a number of years ago, so I have an immediate leaning towards any image in the area. The pier at Colwyn bay was once an ornate and splendid structure but has unhappily been left to deteriorate badly. I hope Conwy Council spend time and money to bring it back to its former glory.

I love this shot which makes the pier look superb and the low light and slow shutter speed have created a beautifully atmospheric image. very nicely produced Alf.

Cheers......John

Many Piers throughout the UK are in rather a sorry state, so your capture of Old-Colwyn-Pier  makes it even more important. Exceptional p/p work by you Alf.....Regards

Alf.....Certainly can't tell from this glorious shot what a state of disrepair this pier is in.   It's a shame when such landmarks are left to languish due to a lack of funds to maintain them.  Maybe you could get thousands of postcards printed up with this image on them and get some people to help you start a campaign to "Save Old-Colwyn-Pier".  I know.....in all your spare time, right?  Anyway, it's a great shot.....more of your outstanding work!

Many thanks for your thoughts and kind observations, I took about a dozen different shots at varying shutter speeds and I liked some of the longer exposures like this one

HEJ JANNICA

I hope you are keeping well.

My sincere thanks for your imput, I really do appreciate your opinions and views, I processed the same image twice, one with a warm tone and the other with a blue cold tone, I blended both images and just left a trace of warmth in the pier itself, which kind of makes it stand out. Thanks again Jannica, best wishes to you and your familly.

Sincere thanks for your thoughtful observations and comments, above is an explanation of how I got the pier to stand out a bit more than the original image, sometimes these things work : - )

JOHN

Many thanks for your imput and kind words. I know if this image has your approval then I'm doing something right. There is nothing like local knowledge after all. In truth it was one of your comments on PN a couple of weeks ago, from another image of the pier by another photographer, that actually led me to the pier, to make sure I got a few shots of it while it still retains it's dignity and some of it's former glory. Hopefully Conwy Council will come good and make the investment.

Cheers John

Many thanks for your visit and thoughts, you are of course right, many piers in the UK have fell into disrepair, neglected by councils who in thier infinite wisdom seem intent on spending the tax payers money on .......well lets just say, less deserving causes.. But also maybe the british holiday makers habits have changed now too, a stick of blackpool rock and a donkey ride isn't good enough for Mr and Mrs Average any more, now it's 5 star hotels, all inclusive, 3 bars 6 resteurants, massage service and guaranteed sunshine, or they feel positively underprivileged, and yeah I suppose I am becoming cynical : - ) Thanks again Keith

Always good to hear from you, thanks for stopping by! You know thats really not a bad idea about the post cards as a means of saving the pier, I would take it a stage further and invite local photographers to forward thier best image of the pier to the fund raisers, that way people could choose from a range of styles and artists thier fav post card images and with options to buy larger prints, it just needs someone local to organise it hmmmm interesting.  Thanks for your imput Christal, much appreciated.

Agree with what John said above. And indeed, the Pier has deteriorated since it was put into the hands of administrators. Would be a shame to loose the art deco pavilion - or all eventually. However, I understood there is Conwy County Council’s commitment to the regeneration. The big issue will be money ( as usual)and I fear that it will be a very expensive project... Thank you for bringing up the subject, it's worthwhile. You created the right atmosphere in your image to show the 'pier in pain'...long exposure effect inluded. Compliments

Many Thanks for your imput, much appreciated. The annoying thing is, that I have emailed the administrators and offered my material FOC for them to use as they see fit in order to raise funds / awareness of the campaign to save the pier, to date I have not even received a response! Ahh well we can but try! Thanks again EL
