I'm just continually amazed at the creativity of the images like this that I see on PN.

So simple, yet so striking!

Beautiful idea and composition.

If I may ask, how do achieve the blackness that envelopes most of the frame? Is it by keeping the subject a distance away from a black background in a dark room and then using flash? Is it largely done in post-processing? Will be most obliged for any clues. Thank you.

Stunning.

Thank you to all of you for your comments :)

@ a n: blackness is achieved using black b/g and filtering natural light from a window on one side (No flash in this shot, just natural light which I much prefer for lighting). Spot metering on white part of the face and a little bit of post-processing to raise the black. I hope you find it helpful. All the best. AL
