Tennis ball at sunset

I love this shot. The expression on the dogs' face is excellent, the muted background colors complement the dog's coat color well, and the droplets of water and foam coming off the dog are lovely. 

Composition is good, and there's a sense of movement and spirit in the shot. If this were my dog I'd be thrilled with this as a portrait. 

Question: did you Photoshop or color-saturate the tennis ball? It looks very.... clean.

I post-processed from NEF in Capture NX 2, then sharpened a bit and used the punch preset in LR 2. I suspect that the ball looks clean because the dog just got it out of the water, thus no sand on it.
