Roger, thank you for the feed-back , the idea of the focus point is important, I belive .Here , after analising better the image ( which has a little blurry and dreamy look that pleased me ) I think that the problem is that the shot was taken hand held on a very weak light ,so the lack of focal point is in fact due to the lack of enough IS (too long exposure time : 0.02 , focal 146mm, F5 ! )or tripod. However , your critique is relevant and very usefull ...

All the best, Teo

Teo, i think a focal point helps to ground your image also brings reality into the equation.  sometimes no focal point can also work well, i usually call those sort of images "dreamtime images". with the super lens they make today is really easy to experiment with focus.

a lot of folks wont even look at a flower without a tripod, i on the other hand use one as little as possible. my creativity level just heads south when i bring out the tripod. only time i use is if i have specific job and know exactly what is wanted. if i work with tripod my production level drops dramatically a shoot with tri pod probably  produces no more than a dozen frames. where as if i am in wandering mode is easy to shoot a couple hundred frames and sometimes even more.
