While this isn't a freak storm, it was rather unexpected for this time of year. At around 4,500 feet, this area could see snow even into May. When I arrived, the clouds were thick as pea soup, but as the sun started warming the landscape, the clouds began to break. This was fortuitous and enabled me to catch some color and drama. Within 20 minutes, however, the clouds closed back in and the light show was over. The mornings shoot didn't turn out as I expected; any wildflowers I would be shooting were blanketed by snow. Upon closer inspection, the near bush is blooming with yellow flowers, adding an additional tinge of color. Thanks for your thoughts and please enjoy the Larger preview!

Wonderful again, Mark! I love the cold cyan "luminescence" of the snow in the fg, and the soft colours of the bg. Amazing having snow covered flowers in springtime, eh? It makes for a very eyecatching picture.

Ciao,

Paolo

Amazingly beautiful image. What a rewarding moment it must have been to be there and capture the experience. Kudos, rek.

Thanks Ross, Ben, Rueda, Paolo and Richard! Richard, this was surprisingly rewarding. No doubt I will be back many times to this area, one of my favorite spots!!

Hello Mark,

The hint of green in the plants in the foreground are just screaming to be released from their icy bonds. Wonderful shot. I think it looses a little of it's magic in the b/w version. Probably cause I like this one so much. Thanks for weighing in on Refugee. I appreciate you candor, and actually agreed with your comment. Hope the wildflowers return soon. All my best-Jim

What??!!  No wildflowers?  ;-)   I love the yellow peaking through down front, and the clouds add a wonderful layer to this.  I'm going to email you one day soon for info....re: what part of CA to concentrate on visiting for photography from June 20-30.  We have to be in San Fran. for part of the time.

Thanks Jim and Christal! Absolutely Christal. I would love to steer you in a few directions. I think maybe I can find you some wildflowers by then. We have had a cool and wet spring, so by the end of June, I think there will still be some opportunity to enjoy California before everything dries out! Just let me know!
