Jack McRitchie 150 Posted April 17, 2010 I notice in many of these pictures that you don't seem to mind blowing out the high tones ( ThoughI realize that this may be due to the calibration of my monitor). It creates a very odd sensation and takes a little readjusting of my conceptual expectations. Any comment? Link to comment
frank_p 0 Posted April 17, 2010 Thanks for all your comments and views, you know how much I appreciate your thoughts. I was actually thinking of you when I shot this one. Why? Just because of the presence of someone Japanese, I guess. Anyway, about the highlights: I think at least part of the explanation is your monitor. Photography is all about light and lighting of course. I took quite some efforts here and in the entire series in getting the right contrasts without either over or underexposing. The real subject to me in this one is just that, the contrast between her bkack clothing and the silver and gold. (But then, the look on her face was quite interesting too.) Thanks again for you attention. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted May 1, 2010 The highlights might be a little blown, but not enough to extinguish all the detail...I mean, I can still see the jewelry displayed on the mounts. It's a widely accepted fact/theory that the eye is drawn to the brighter elements in a photograph, but that's not happening for me here. The brightly lighted displays create a frame around the main subject, drawing the eye to her. I also like the narrow doorway, which makes her seem taller than she (probably) is.At least that's how I see it. Link to comment
