William,

I really like what you have done. Great lighting (including her hair light), contrast, and eye contact. She has a very nice smile. You have excellent composition.

There are a couple of things that I would do differently.

Her skin color looks a little too pink (with some yellow/orange in it) to me.

The bright yellow frame outshines your subject. If you must put a frame around your portrait, when posted on the internet, (which I question) use a dark frame.

Get rid of the light squiggly border around your image. This is much too gimmicky.

Your in-focus lines and shapes, with bright orange dabs of color, background draws attention away from your subject.

I think you could make this into something that looks very good. I would play around with it a little more.

Good idea,

Mark

I feel connected to her as she is direct and sincere! after reading his comment, the only thing I will change is the frame. I will make it black. Warm regards.

Thank you all for the comments . I agree that the frame was a mistake , I wanted to to see if I could make one ! The painting was just for  a change from the usual . Bill

I truly think you are a brave soul to attempt a portrait painting William, and in saying that, I think you did quite wel.  Sometimes it's difficult enough to get a half decent digital portrait, where all the elements work to make a great shot.  The painting programs are not the easiest, and for myself, just trying to paint flowers is a challenge.

You reavealed her (what I perceive to be) gentle disposition and feminine face.  Sure it isn't perfect, but you made me see deeper than the technicalities.  I'm sure you will try this again.  I find the painting to be most intriguing and challenging.  I'm not even nearly as good as you.  So 'hats off to you'.  I"m not sure why one would always have to use a 'dark' frame on the internet, only reason may be color looking different on monitors I guess.  Perhaps a black 'stroke' around the painting to resemble a mat whould seperate it enough.  I don't mind the gold, but what do I know? Congrats on your efforst, keep on 'keepin on'....afterall this is a 'journey' is it not?  my sincere warm regards, Gail
