sideris 0 Posted April 13, 2010 I consider this composition as a class in itself. The dark gray background with this very subtle lightning remarking the model body as a miracle of the human nature, the feline stance of her with this indescribable facial expression, even the bed intruding the scenery from the left is necessary, because to break the centered position of the main subject. At all John, one of your best. Chapeau mon ami. Link to comment

jerrymat 4 Posted April 13, 2010 John, As always you seem to be able to find models who are better than real. I especially like your tonality here: the way the darker side of her face is not too dark, the texture showing in the hair and the skin that has such even tones of grey. However I will suggest two things that I believe could be improved. I am sure that the white mattress was a purposeful inclusion but here I think it unbalances the composition. It draws the viewers eyes away from your model in an unproductive way and does not effectively counterbalance the dark space on the right. One of my mentors used to describe such things as a trap - they pull the eyes away from what is important and trap them. Another way to think about it is to imagine the model is the middle of an old fashioned pan balance. The left pan has the mattress but the right hand pan is empty. The second thing that bothers me was also referred to as a trap by my mentor. Her supporting hand seems to be growing out of her leg. If one looks a long time at the model, that hand begins to seem like it is misplaced. My warmest regards, Jerry Link to comment
John Peri 1,029 Posted April 13, 2010 Many thanks for the very useful feedback Jerry. Indeed, I understand your remark regarding the bed. Given that the figure is centrally situated, I thought that it might help to compensate, in other shots taken at the same time it was framed differently, I also imagined that it may somehow add to the story line, but I more than sympathize if you find it distracting. As for the hand, again I understand your comment. Somehow, I often overlook details like that, usually because I just let the model do her thing without paying much attention, sometimes it pays off, sometimes not. I could actually try to remove it here, but then her foot may look overwhelmingly large. At any rate, many thanks for the trouble taken over this photo and best wishes, John. Link to comment

wmc718 3 Posted April 13, 2010 Hi John! A beautiful model and pose... both innocent and cat like. I have to admit, I too learned from Jerry's comment about the bed, as my eye tracked to it upon opening this image. Her left hand doesn't bother me however. It feels as though it and her feet act as a tripod... delicately balancing her. Here's an out-of-the-box idea... try holding your hand up to the image and simply cropping out the bed, moving the negative space behind her (juxtaposed to the norm). In doing so, for me, it adds another new dimension... one of mystery. If that is done, for me, it becomes another 7/7 master. What do you think? Warm regards, Michael Link to comment
Elstad 7 Posted April 14, 2010 A 'Classic' John and very well done... Fabulous skin tones too. Link to comment
JPPhoto1664880217 5 Posted April 14, 2010 Was the intent to "put her on a pedestal"??? If so, it worked very well. I like how the model's facial expression dominates the image. The expression reminds me of a wild animal and I find it very sensual. Jim Phelps Link to comment

elportebonheur 0 Posted April 14, 2010 Great visual impact. Imho your works are really remarkable for their creativity in taking the perfect mix of artistic and sensual essence. With this one you achieved again to bring out an artistic idea perfectly. Compliments! The nitty-gritty things I leave to the specialists... Link to comment
alfbailey 2 Posted April 15, 2010 The pose and and expression reminds me of a beautiful yet wild & untamed thing, you can look, but keep your distance or she will bite!. I know some photographers are utter perfectionists when it comes to positions of hands, feet etc etc, and from a technical viewpoit, they are probably right, however in my opinion the whole countenance of an image is more important than any one single aspect. I think you have captured a powerful mood and a character rather than just a photo of an attractive woman. Nice work John! Kind Regards Alf Link to comment
rlopezmoral 1 Posted April 15, 2010 Excellent tones and an admirable & sensual position, John ... you captured her feminine essence in this shot. I have been contemplating it for a long time ... A hug. Link to comment
