The Mawlawi Order, or the Mevlevilik or Mevleviye are a Sufi orderfounded in Konya by the followers of Rumi (Mawlana) a 13th centuryTurkish poet, Islamic jurist, and theologian.

They are also known as the Whirling Dervishes due to their famouspractice of whirling as a form of dhikr (remembrance of God). Dervishis a common term for an initiate of the Sufi path; the whirling ispart of the formal Sema ceremony and the participants are properlyknown as semazens.

Guillermo, this is a wonderful image. I love the luminous white in his costume. If this were mine I would not have cropped it so closely, or put the white line around it. A beautiful free flowing image like this needs room, in MHO. The white line constrains the movement and distracts the eye. Otherwise it is excellent. A fantastic subject, very interesting and original. Warm Wishes, Linda
