Matt Laur 2,201 Posted April 11, 2010 From a field session with a three month old German Wirehaired Pointer pup - just a baby, and already steady on quail. I'm wrestling with whether or not the muted tones take away from the portrayal of the pup's intensity and concentration. Thanks for feedback and for stopping by. Link to comment
David-Wisse 5 Posted April 11, 2010 Wonderful shot Matt. Love those eyes, and amazing intensity for such a young pup. The tones/saturation look fine to me - very natural, complementary earth tones - with plenty of detail in the pup's face. Well done, David Link to comment
Wayne Melia 5,969 Posted April 11, 2010 Goodun. IMO, "the the pup's intensity and concentration" is maintained by: the selective focus, the careful coifure of the white nose hair providing a contrast point, and the size of the eyes. Cheers. Link to comment
Matt Laur 2,201 Posted April 11, 2010 Thanks guys. "Earthy" is just how the scene felt to me, and she does indeed have a meaningful gaze when she smells birds. Really something. I think her breeder (who will be keeping her - he's smitten) will like this shot. Off to the lab, with me (the printing lab, that is, not a Labrador Retriever!). Link to comment
brillb 0 Posted April 12, 2010 Great shot. I think that the muted grass and tonality add energy to the overall image. What a cutey. Becky Link to comment
kendrawise 0 Posted April 12, 2010 Matt, I'm with all the previous posters -- this is a great shot. The calm colors represent the pup's environment well (looks like many of the fields I romped in as a kid, and we flushed pheasant all the time!), and the composition highlights the dog's focus and drive. Very striking eyes, but the tail set is (to me) equally important in the picture -- that's the tail of a dog who has what she wants in her sights! I think including both is a good choice, and I'd be delighted with a print like this if she was my dog. Link to comment
Ray House 4,150 Posted April 12, 2010 I sense a great deal of inteligence and inborn wisdom in looking at this pups eyes. I think the muted earth tones work well to highlight what this breed does so well. Nicely done. Link to comment

atom2 0 Posted May 22, 2010 I think the tones are nice, leaving the pup's face full of concentration as the centrepiece! All the best, AlecP.S. where's the quail dish photo? Link to comment
